The First Step

Brian Scudamore talked his way into college.

He didn’t have the grades to actually get in to college. He didn’t even have a high school degree.

So when he talked his way in to university, he was pretty proud of himself.

There was just one problem.

He didn’t have any money to pay for it.

Brian was in the McDonald’s drive-thru, waiting for his cheeseburger, when he saw it: a beat-up pickup full of old bikes, with a hand-painted sign, “MARK’S HAULING.”

That was the lightbulb moment.

The Next Step

Brian bought a pickup truck for $700… and The Rubbish Boys was born.

That summer, he earned enough to pay for college tuition, along with $1,700 in profit. Just by moving junk.

He dropped out of college – the same college he talked his way into – with just one year before graduation.

Turns out, Brian was learning more about business running the company than he was in school.

The Fallout

29 years and a name-change later, Brian’s company – 1-800-GOT-JUNK – is earning over $300m in annual revenue. They have a fleet of 2000 trucks. They’re in 3 countries.

When we asked Brian about the biggest growth channel for the business, he had one thing to say:

Free press.

Say What?

On June 22, 2018, Brian will explain his strategy for getting free press, and using it to skyrocket the business.
